Best Mushroom Bolognese Pasta Recipe

Description: Indulge in the rich flavours of Italy with this delectable Mushroom Bolognese Pasta recipe. A twist on the classic bolognese, this dish combines the earthy goodness of mushrooms with the comforting warmth of pasta, all wrapped up in a savoury tomato-based sauce.

Prep Time: 20 mins | Cook Time: 30 mins | Servings: 4-6

Ingredients:

8 oz spaghetti
2 cups mixed mushrooms (button, cremini, shiitake), sliced
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup dry white wine
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried oregano
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 tbsp olive oil
Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water before draining the spaghetti.

2. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 5 minutes, or until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, stirring constantly to prevent burning.

3. Add the sliced mushrooms to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until they release their liquid and start to brown. Add the white wine and stir to deglaze the pan, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the liquid has almost completely reduced.

4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried basil, and dried oregano. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, allowing the flavours to meld together. If the sauce becomes too thick, add some of the reserved pasta water.

5. Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet, tossing everything together until the pasta is well coated with the mushroom bolognese sauce. Serve hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese if desired.

Pro Cooking Tips:

Use a mix of mushroom varieties for a deeper flavour profile.
Don’t overcrowd the skillet when cooking the mushrooms, as this can lead to steaming instead of browning.
Reserve some pasta water before draining the spaghetti, as this can help loosen the sauce and prevent it from becoming too thick.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve with a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese for an added burst of flavour.
Pair with a simple green salad or a side of garlic bread for a satisfying meal.
Use leftover sauce to make pasta bake or lasagna, adding extra layers of flavour and texture.
