Urad dal kachori

Urad  dal kachori is a North Indian dish . These delicious dal kachori can be eaten as snack. In many North Indian states they are eaten in breakfast also. Recipe which i am posting here is my mom’s recipe. Whenever i go there my mother prepares them for me. So this is for my mom especially.

Servings:12-14 kachoris

For dough:

All purpose flour or maida: 1 cup

Sooji: 1/4 cup

Salt: 1 tbsp

Oil: 3 tbsp

Water: to knead dough

For dal stuffing:

Dhuli urad dal: 1 cup

Besan: 2 tbsp

Salt: to taste

Red chilli powder: 1/4 tsp

Coriander powder: 1 tbsp coarsely grinded

Black pepper: 8-10 coarsely grinded

Cloves: 2-3 coarsely grinded

Amchoor powder: 1 tbspr dal

Oil: 2 tbsp for stuffing+ for deep frying


For dough:

1. Take maida and sooji in a bowl and add oil and salt. Add water and knead a stiff dough. Keep it aside for half an hour.

For stuffing:

2.Wash and soak dal for 7-8 hours or overnight. Drain water and put dal in grinder. Grind it to a coarse mixture. It should not be very smooth.

3.Heat oil in a kadai. Put besan in it and saute for two minutes.

4.Add grinded dal and all spices and mix well. Saute for 3-4 minutes.

5.Take dough and divide it into equal balls. Take one ball and roll it into diameter of 3 inches.

6.Put dal stuffing in between and seal all the edges. With rolling pin lightly roll it into diameter of 3-4 inches.

6.Heat oil in a kadai and fry these kachoris till golden brown.

7.Serve it hot with imli chutney.
