Mehri or in punjabi we call it meri. It is a simple easy recipe which is made without much efforts and also very less time consuming. Rice and buttermilk or chhach is cooked together with some spices.
Servings: 4-5
Ingredients:
Rice: 1/2 cup( you can take broken rice )
Buttermilk or chach: one and half cup
Water: 1 cup
Oil: 2 tbsp
Salt: to taste
Turmeric powder: 1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder: 1/4 tsp
Mustard seeds or rai: 1 tbsp
Methi dana: 1/4 tsp
Jeera: 1/2 tsp
Jeera powder: 1/4 tsp
Corriander seeds( sabut dhania): 1/2 tsp
Heeng or asafoetida: a pinch
Onion: 1 chopped
Tomato: 1 chopped
Method:
1. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pressure cooker. Add heeng, jeera, methi dana, coriander seeds, rai. Saute for few seconds. Add rice.
2. Put water in cooker and cook rice till cooker gives whistle.
3. When rice gets cooked(no need to throw water) add buttermilk or chach or matha. Add salt, haldi powder, red chilli powder, jeera powder and cook on medium flame after whistle for 10 minutes so that rice will get mashed and mixed completely.
4. Serve hot with onions and tomatoes on top.
