Steamed palak vada

Palak or spinach is a very healthy vegetable which is rich in iron and vitamin C, B6, K. It is very low in calories and fats. So today i had decided to made a new dish with palak which consumes minimum oil and is steamed.

Palak:1 cup chopped

Wheat flour or atta: 1/2 cup

Besan:1/4 cup

Sooji: 1/4 cup

Dahi: 2 tbsp

Salt: to taste

Red chilli powder: 1/4 tsp

Black pepper powder: 1/4 tsp

Ginger: 1/2 tsp grated

Garlic: 1/2 tsp chopped

Coriander: 1 tsp chopped

Jeera powder: 1/2 tsp

Baking soda: 1/2 tsp

For tempering or tadka

Oil: 1 tbsp for dough+ 1tbsp for seasoning

Mustard seeds: 1 tsp

Kari patta:4-5


1.Add all ingredients of making vadas in a bowl. Mix them well. Add a little water to form a dough from all ingredients.

2.Divide the dough into equal parts. Roll them into balls ,flatten them with hands and make a hole in centre .

3.Steam these vadas for 15-20 minutes. Check by inserting knife into vadas. If knife comes clean then vadas are cooked.

4.Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add curry leaves and mustard seeds. When they starts to crackle add vadas and cook them for five minutes.

5. Serve them with imli chutney.
